About the role

As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in protecting and enhancing environmental health across the City. This position is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that support the sustainable regulation of unreasonable noise.

You will lead investigations into noise impacts from residential and commercial sources, assess development applications and event noise management plans, and provide expert guidance to ensure compliance with environmental standards. Your work will directly contribute to shaping a healthier, more liveable urban environment through the creation and refinement of noise-related policies and procedures.

Role accountabilities include: 

  • Develop and implement noise regulation policies aligned with legislation, planning schemes, and the City’s evolving night-time economy.
  • Lead scientific noise studies and manage data analysis to inform evidence-based policy and procedure development.
  • Provide expert advice on noise and vibration issues across development applications, events, and customer inquiries.
  • Conduct and lead investigations into environmental noise complaints, ensuring consistent regulatory processes.
  • Manage technical equipment and reporting, including calibration, data interpretation, and review of internal and external scientific reports.

About you

You are a qualified and experienced professional with a strong foundation in science or engineering, and a passion for protecting environmental health and the experience to back it up. You bring a degree in Science or Engineering relevant to environmental noise, and you're eligible to join the Australian Acoustical Society. You also hold a current Driver Licence and Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.

Your expertise includes a comprehensive understanding of public and environmental health legislation, guidelines, and Australian Standards specific to environmental noise. You are confident working independently in regulatory and compliance environments and have a proven ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders. Your well-developed interpersonal and decision-making skills enable you to manage complex situations and deliver fair and balanced outcomes.

You bring a proactive, can-do attitude and thrive in a collaborative, high-volume work environment where attention to detail and teamwork are key to success.
